Sophie Underwood, born in lutruwita/Tasmania, Australia has grown up in Tasmania forging her love of islands, cultural heritage, wild places, seashells, plants, and especially flowers.

Underwood is a collage artist, photographer, advocate and activist. Her artwork and advocacy are inspired by the notions of place and displacement - from the local to the global.

Underwood, founded Freycinet Action Network and co-founded the award-winning Planning Matters Alliance Tasmania, is community leader, organiser and spokesperson for Tasmania’s natural and cultural heritage, lifestyle and democracy.

Underwood gained a Bachelor of Science First Class Honours from University of Tasmania having written her thesis on the vegetation of the west coast of Flinders Island. Her research helped create permanent reserves for nature.
